Quincy Rotary Raises $47,000 in Annual Auction
QUINCY, MA, ISSUED JULY 15, 2003…The figures are in. The Quincy Rotary broke all previous fundraising records and tallied more than $47,000 from this year's Silent and Live Auctions, held recently at the Neighborhood club. The Kids' Classic Auction 2003 is the organization's major fundraiser for the year.Proceeds from this and other fundraising events go to the support of youth activities, including the awarding of scholarships to graduating seniors at Quincy High School and North Quincy High School.
Daniel Flynn of Flynn Real Estate served as auctioneer and coaxed bidders into taking a chance on a trip to Bermuda, along with hundreds of other items. Flynn's quick sense of humor made the event is usual "don't miss" gathering. The auction included a social hour and dinner and was attended by hundreds of residents and businesspeople.
Co-chairs of the event were Phyllis Godwin of Granite City Electric and Bob Curry of Curry Hardware, both well-known and well-respected members of the Quincy business community.
Peter Racicot, President-Elect of the Rotary, said, "This was a great outpouring of community support. We thank all who participated, either through donation of gifts or by attending, or whatever part they played in making the event such a success."
A sampling of other prizes included a membership to Successful Singles, a 30-year old introduction (dating) service; four Red Sox tickets donated by Tiger Home Inspection, numerous other Red Sox and sporting tickets; a one-year membership to the Quincy YMCA; several trips including a week in Florida; a scenic flight over the Cape and Islands with lunch in Nantucket; golf at TPC in Norton, and numerous other prizes. This is one of the Quincy Rotary's two large fundraisers, proceeds of which go to benefit a number of local Quincy charities. In addition to the auction, the Rotary hosts an annual breakfast.
Committee members for the event included Erik Abboud, Tom Accomando, Jay Asher, Paul Baharian, Rich Barry, Mark Bertman, Roger Brousseau, Barbara Clarke, Jerry Dacey, Jay Eckblom, Lynne Houghton, Mary Hurley, Ed Keohane, Steve Marini, Mike McFarland, John Pasciucco, Angela Ponte, Joe Shadduck, and Caryn Smith.
