Former Fallon Ambulance CEO Honored by Milton Kiwanis for Community Service

James R. ("Ray") Fallon, who served as CEO of Fallon Ambulance until last March, was honored recently by the Milton Kiwanis, who presented him with their "Special Community Service" award.

Mr. Fallon, who is the son of the late James R. Fallon Sr. and Eileen Fallon, joined the family business in 1956, and, with the exception of several years spent in the United States Army (1958-1960), worked in the family business until his retirement in 2000. Fallon Ambulance, started by his father in 1936, this year marks its 65th anniversary and is the largest independently owned ambulance firm in the state.

Ray Fallon worked for the business that his father started since 1956, with the exception of several years spent in the military. In 1970, he was named CEO and presided over a period of tremendous growth, to the level where the company now employs more than 415 individuals and provides in excess of 200,000 transports annually.

Fallon, a veteran of the United States Army, was a member of the first graduating class at St. Agatha School (1949), and continued his studies at Boston College High School (1953) and then at St. Michael's College.

Kiwanis Club members noted his community involvement, including serving on the Carney Hospital Foundation, Milton Residents for the Elderly, Massachusetts Ambulance Association (as Vice President and Treasurer). Additionally, they cited the ambulance CEO's generosity, saying, "Ray's corporate philosophy has been representative of sound business fundamentals - a demand for integrity, honesty, compassion and philanthropy. Ray has been a consistent supporter of the numerous charities in our community," noted Kiwanis president Paul Samuelian.

The ceremony, a Kiwanis annual event, was attended by more than 100 people. In all, the Kiwanis honored seven individuals. In addition to honoring local residents, the organization provides scholarships, organizes a Holiday Toy fund, sponsors a Little League team, and provides support to a number of different organizations.

"It is a distinct honor for us to see our father receive this recognition," said Tim Fallon, CEO of Fallon Ambulance, who added, "We, as Ray's children, consider it a privilege to be able to follow in his footsteps and continue to build the company that has been so much a part of his life. Those of us closest to him have always known what a wonderful man he is; it's gratifying to see others share that view."
