Fallon Ambulance Employee Christmas Party Raises Money for Needy
In the true spirit of giving, employees at Fallon Ambulance Inc., raised $1815 for local charities at the annual company Christmas party.
"The holidays are a time for giving, and helping less fortunate. This year, Fallon Ambulance chose the Lend-a-Hand Program. We chose this program because it is a community based fund that is small and doesn't have a large number of sponsors. We felt that this is where our donation could help the most," said Jeannemarie Bacon, Fundraising Coordinator for Fallon Ambulance.
Over 300 people attended the Fallon Ambulance-sponsored party, held at Lombardo's in Randolph on Friday, December 8, 2000. Funds were raised from a private raffle among the employees. The company donated a $500 gift certificate from a Travel Agency, four tickets to Blue Man Group, and a 27" color television for raffle prizes.
"When the employees heard where the money was going to, they reached down and made a difference," said Bacon. She continued, "In three hours, those who attended the party had donated a total of $1815."
Susan Fallon, wife of company CEO 'Tim Fallon and an organizer of the event, said, "It was not surprising to see the generosity of the staff at Fallon Ambulance. They are a caring and close-knit group and always come together to serve the less fortunate."
Bacon and Susan Fallon spent the evening selling raffle tickets to raise the funds for the charity.
The Quincy, MA daily newspaper, The Patriot Ledger, published stories about South Shore people in need each day through December. People can then donate to the fund. The 2000 Lend a Hand fund distributes the donations among three long-established and wide-reaching community service agencies; Quincy Community Action Programs Inc., South Shore Mental Health and South Shore Community Action Council. The Patriot Ledger and the agencies absorb the administrative costs for the fund, which means 100% of the money raised benefits needy people in the region's cities and towns. In the first five days, the program raised $20,000.
