Memory of Paul Fallon honored
Remembering one of their own: Fallon Ambulance Raises Over $10,000 In Pan Mass Challenge Cancer ResearchFallon Ambulance Service personnel logged in nearly 400 miles and raised more than $10,000 to benefit cancer research in the recent Pan Mass Challenge competition.
For Fallon Ambulance's Senior Vice President of Business Development Peter Racicot, a Weymouth resident, and Fallon EMT Kevin Dowd, an Arlington resident, completing the 192-mile bike trip from Sturbridge to Provincetown was a familiar task. Each has participated in the PMC Challenge a number of times over the years.
But this year, the ride was a bittersweet experience for them, because a key participant from their family 'Paul Fallon' was not with them.
The 34-year old Paul Fallon, who was the ambulance company's Vice President of Operations and a resident of Abington, died earlier this year from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
"This year, we cycled for two excellent causes," said Peter Racicot. He said, "As always, we participated to raise funds for the Jimmy Fund; and this year, we also completed the ride in memory of my brother, Paul Fallon."
"It was sad without Paul being there," said Racicot. He added, "Paul brought such a level of enthusiasm and excitement to everything he tackled! He loved the challenge of the PMC ride each year, and always considered it a privilege to help raise funds for the cause."
Racicot noted, "Our donation to the Jimmy Fund this year will of course come from Fallon Ambulance, and especially in memory of Paul, for all he did to help this and other causes."
Two personnel cycled the 192 mile trek; company donated services of four ambulances and 10 personnel throughout the route two Fallon personnel each bicycled the 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown, representing the three-generation, family-owned, independent ambulance company. In addition to the cycling efforts, Fallon Ambulance Service provided 10 volunteers and donated four ambulances for the Saturday and Sunday event.
"I'm really delighted that we were able to pull together as a company and raise some funds for this worthwhile cause," said Racicot, who has participated in the race for the past seven years. He added, "We know firsthand that quality medical research can make an important difference in the lives of people, and we are committed to doing whatever we can to further that cause."
The race took two days, and more than 2,500 riders participated in the event.
